Why Most Cable Connectors Don't Match

Most USB-C cables use connectors made from chrome-plated plastic or generic zinc alloy. These materials are cheap to manufacture and acceptable for basic durability — but they have two problems:

  • They oxidize. Over time, the surface degrades, leading to poor contact, slower charging, and a grimy appearance.
